Lloyd Center (midcentury enclosed mall with indoor ice rink)

Lloyd Center opened in 1960 as one of the West Coast's early large enclosed shopping malls and was notable at opening for containing an indoor ice rink. The multi-level mall became a major retail and social hub in Portland's Lloyd District and has undergone numerous renovations and ownership changes while retaining the rink as a distinctive interior feature for many decades. Its original midcentury design and central role in postwar retail development make it a notable commercial building in the city.
