Sutro Baths ruins (coastal concrete and stone complex)

The Sutro Baths were an enormous public saltwater swimming complex built by Adolph Sutro and opened in 1896; the wooden and concrete structure burned in 1966 and the concrete foundations and stone walls remain as coastal ruins. The ruins form a distinctive rocky-seeming amphitheater of concrete and masonry at Lands End and are managed as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The site is frequently cited in historical accounts of San Francisco's seaside recreation and is accessible from the Lands End trail system.
