Merrion Castle

Merrion Castle, once a prominent fortress located just south of Dublin city center, was built in the early 14th century and served as the principal residence of the Fitzwilliam family from the 16th to early 18th centuries. The castle played a significant role during the English Civil War, changing hands between Royalists and Parliamentarians. After the Fitzwilliams moved to Mount Merrion House around 1710, the castle fell into ruin and was demolished in 1780, with remnants visible until 1837. Today, no trace of the castle remains, but its historical significance and location can be explored through historical maps, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
