Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo features a raised stone church and a formal plaza dating to the late 18th century; the church’s elevated façade and adjoining platforms give visitors a higher vantage over the mission compound and immediate landscape. The mission sits above the surrounding plain along the Mission Reach corridor, providing views across the other historic mission sites and agricultural fields. Public access to some elevated areas (such as the bell tower) is limited or offered only during special programs.
