Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire site (Asch Building)

The Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory fire occurred on March 25, 1911, at the Asch Building (today often cited as 23–29 Washington Place), killing 146 garment workers, most of them young immigrant women. The disaster prompted public outcry and led to major reforms in fire safety codes, labor laws, and the growth of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union. The building still stands and is part of the historical record of New York City's labor and urban history.
