Roselawn (Allendale, South Carolina)

Roselawn, also known as Lawton House, is a historic cottage located near Allendale, South Carolina, built between 1835 and 1840 by local minister Joseph Lawton. This charming 1+1⁄2-story clapboard dwelling features a distinctive broken gable roof, three dormer windows, and a full-width piazza. The house has a rich history, including a connection to Union General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, who is said to have camped there during the Civil War. Remarkably, Roselawn has remained within the Lawton family for generations and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Southern history.
