San Fernando Cathedral / Main Plaza

San Fernando Cathedral was founded in 1731 and occupies Main Plaza, the central square of the original Spanish colonial town of San Antonio de Béxar. The plaza and the cathedral’s parcel were part of the 18th-century townsite layout recorded in colonial surveys and land records. The cathedral’s placement on Main Plaza has been a fixed reference in successive cadastral maps and surveys of downtown San Antonio.
