Meadea

Meadea is a historic house in White Post, Virginia, built before 1760 as a small frontier cabin. Originally consisting of two rooms and a loft, it features a central stone chimney with two hearths. The house was acquired by Col. Richard Kidder Meade, an aide to George Washington, who expanded it around 1784 to serve as a temporary residence for his family. Over the years, Meadea has undergone significant renovations, transforming it into a 1.5-story log dwelling with distinctive architectural features, including exposed hearths and stone chimneys. As the only surviving 18th-century log building in White Post, Meadea was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
