Spirit of Detroit statue

The Spirit of Detroit is a 26-foot bronze statue by sculptor Marshall Fredericks mounted on the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. Installed in 1958, the figure has become a widely recognized civic symbol of Detroit and is frequently featured in public events and photographs. The sculpture depicts a seated figure holding a bronze sphere and a family group and is maintained by the city government.
