Govan Municipal Buildings

Govan Municipal Buildings, located in Govan, Scotland, is a historic Category B listed structure that once served as the local authority building and meeting place for the burgh council in the 19th century. Designed in the Greek Revival style by architect John Burnet, the building was completed in 1867 and features a grand assembly hall capable of accommodating 600 people. It has a rich history, including a significant fire in 1882 and subsequent restoration. Notably, it is rumored that Rudolf Hess was briefly held here during World War II. After serving as a police station until 1998, the building was refurbished and now operates as the Orkney Street Enterprise Centre, providing office space for small businesses.
