Book Tower long vacancy and rehabilitation

The Book Tower at 1265 Washington Boulevard is a 38-story skyscraper in Detroit designed by Louis Kamper and completed in 1926. It sat largely vacant for decades after mid-20th-century decline, becoming one of Detroit's most cited abandoned high-rises. In the 2010s a major rehabilitation project led by Bedrock began to restore the tower for mixed residential and commercial use, marking an end to its long period of abandonment. Portions of the complex have reopened in phases since the renovation work started.
