John Tucker Daland House

The John Tucker Daland House, built between 1851 and 1852, is a stunning example of Italianate architecture located in Salem, Massachusetts. Designed by architect Gridley James Fox Bryant, this historic three-story brick house was originally home to prosperous merchant John Tucker Daland and later served as the Salem Athenaeum, a private library. Now owned by the Peabody Essex Museum, the house features distinctive architectural elements such as rusticated corner quoins, elegant cornices, and a grand front porch with Corinthian columns. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is notable for being one of the last detached brick houses constructed in Salem, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in architectural history.
