Smithsonian National Zoological Park (National Zoo)

The Smithsonian National Zoological Park, commonly called the National Zoo, was established by an act of Congress in 1889 and is part of the Smithsonian Institution. Located in the Woodley Park and Cleveland Park area, the zoo's address is 3001 Connecticut Ave NW and it houses more than 1,800 animals representing hundreds of species. The zoo has been notable for its giant panda program, including the arrival of Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing in 1972 as part of U.S.–China cultural exchanges.
