The Menil Collection building by Renzo Piano

The Menil Collection was commissioned by John and Dominique de Menil and its main building, designed by architect Renzo Piano, opened in 1987 to house their modern and contemporary art collection. The low-profile, daylight-focused design was intended to integrate with the surrounding residential neighborhood and provide diffuse natural light for artworks. The complex also includes later additions and houses notable collections of modern masters and Byzantine and tribal art.
