Gemeenlandshuis Zwanenburg

The Gemeenlandshuis Zwanenburg, located in Halfweg, is a historic building that served as the former headquarters of the Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland, the water authority of the Netherlands. Designed by Pieter Post and constructed between 1645 and 1648, it was originally built as a meeting hall for water management of the IJ and Haarlem Lake. The site has a rich history, including its role in overseeing dike inspections and evolving into a weather station where early meteorological measurements were taken. Notably, it was the residence of the dijkgraaf (dike warden) and played a significant role in the development of wind measurement standards in the Netherlands.
