Key House

The Key House, once the residence of Francis Scott Key, the author of the U.S. national anthem, was built in 1795 in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Key lived there from 1805 to 1830, raising his eleven children and writing the iconic poem 'The Star-Spangled Banner' during the War of 1812. The house featured thick walls and spacious rooms but was demolished in the 1940s to make way for a highway ramp. Despite its destruction, a memorial honoring Key was established nearby in 1993, commemorating the historical significance of the site and its connection to American history.
