Thomas Downs House

The Thomas Downs House, built around 1809, is a historic Federal style brick home located near the town square of Charlestown, Indiana. This two-story dwelling features a gable roof and a stone foundation, reflecting the architectural style of its time. It was the residence of Thomas Downs, a notable local politician and the first county treasurer of Clark County, who also served as a legislator in the Indiana Territory. The house is now owned by the Clark's Grant Historical Society, which operates a museum on the premises and offers guided tours by reservation. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early Indiana history.
