Old North Church - lantern signal of April 18, 1775

Christ Church in the City of Boston (Old North Church) is the site where, on the evening of April 18, 1775, two lanterns were hung in the steeple as a prearranged signal to indicate British troops were moving by sea-an action that preceded Paul Revere's ride. The lantern signal is documented in contemporary accounts and later histories as a deliberate method of clandestine communication used by patriots. The church continues to function as an Episcopal parish and museum, preserving the steeple associated with that signal.
