Axis Apartments

Axis Apartments, originally known as Onterie Center, is a striking sixty-story high-rise located in downtown Chicago, Illinois. Completed in 1986 and designed by the renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, this building stands at 570 feet, making it one of the tallest structures in the city. It features a unique diagonal brace structure, a design innovation by the late Fazlur Rahman Khan, which allows for fewer columns and a distinctive layout. The building houses 594 apartments, over 140,000 square feet of office space, retail options, and a health club with an indoor pool. In 2023, plans were approved to convert part of the building into a hotel, enhancing its appeal for tourists and researchers alike.
