The Liberty Hotel (former Charles Street Jail)

The building at 215 Charles Street was constructed as the Charles Street Jail in the 1850s and is an example of mid-19th-century civic architecture in the Beacon Hill/West End area. After a restoration and adaptive reuse project, it reopened as the Liberty Hotel in 2007, preserving architectural features such as the rotunda and cellblock configurations while converting the site into a luxury hotel. The site is frequently cited as a notable local example of historic preservation and neighborhood reinvention.
