Samuel May Williams House

The Samuel May Williams House, located in Galveston, Texas, is a historic residence built in 1839 and recognized as the second-oldest surviving home in the area. Originally constructed for one of Galveston's founders, Samuel May Williams, the house features Greek Revival architecture and was elevated on piers to withstand storms. It includes a unique cupola where Williams used a telescope to monitor incoming ships for trade opportunities. After serving as a family home for over a century, it became a museum in 1959, showcasing its rich history. Although it closed in 2007, the house remains a significant landmark, reflecting the early development of Galveston and Texas history.
