Ursuline Academy (San Antonio, Texas)

Ursuline Academy, established in 1851, is a historic former all-girls Catholic school located in downtown San Antonio, Texas. The building, constructed using the rammed earth technique, features designs by architects Francois Giraud and Jules Poincard. Over the years, the campus expanded to include multiple chapels and dormitories. After closing in 1965, the site was restored by the San Antonio Conservation Society and later became part of the University of Texas at San Antonio as the UTSA Southwest Campus, which offers community art classes. The academy was recognized as a historic site and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969, making it a notable destination for tourists and researchers interested in educational history and architectural heritage.
