Humanities Center (Loyola University Maryland)

The Humanities Center at Loyola University Maryland is the oldest building on campus, originally constructed in 1896 as a private residence. Designed in the Tudor Revival style, it was built by a prominent New York architecture firm for Alice Whitridge Garret as a wedding gift for her son. After serving various purposes, including a Red Cross facility for blinded servicemen during World War I, it became part of Loyola College in 1921. The building underwent significant renovations, including a major expansion in the 1990s, transforming it into a hub for academic departments and administrative offices. Notably, it was featured in the Netflix series House of Cards. Today, the Humanities Center includes a dining area known as the refectory, making it a vibrant spot for students and visitors alike.
