Phineas Gage's skull and tamping iron at the Warren Anatomical Museum
By Seeker
The Warren Anatomical Museum's collection includes the skull and tamping iron of Phineas Gage, a railroad worker who suffered a 1848 accident in which an iron rod passed through his skull. Gage's case is widely cited in neurology and psychology as an early example linking brain injury to changes in behavior. These items are cataloged in the museum's human anatomical holdings at the Countway Library of Medicine.
