Gas Works Park (former Seattle Gas Light plant)

Gas Works Park occupies the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company's coal gasification plant, whose industrial operations on Lake Union ran from the early 1900s until 1956. Designed by landscape architect Richard Haag and opened as a park in 1975, the design intentionally preserved portions of the plant's steel structures and machinery as historical and sculptural elements within the landscape. The park is an early and widely cited example of adaptive reuse of industrial infrastructure into public parkland.
