Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, opened in 1974, is the Smithsonian Institution's museum for modern and contemporary art. The museum's cylindrical building and adjacent outdoor sculpture garden display major works and rotating exhibitions by 20th- and 21st-century artists and host public programs and performances. The Hirshhorn is noted for its collection of modern sculpture and for commissioning temporary installations on the National Mall.
