Makó Neological Synagogue

The Makó Neological Synagogue, completed in 1914 and located in Makó, Hungary, was a significant architectural work designed by Lipót Baumhorn, reflecting the Neolog Jewish community's aspirations. Its unique octagonal dome and chapel-like staircases drew inspiration from Baumhorn's other works, notably the Eger Synagogue. However, following the devastation of the local Jewish population during World War II, the synagogue fell into disuse and was ultimately demolished in 1965, despite various renovation proposals. Today, the site is occupied by a police station, marking the end of a once vibrant center of Jewish life in the region.
