Columbia (Richmond, Virginia)

Columbia, also known as the Philip Haxall House, is a historic Federal villa located in Richmond, Virginia, built between 1817-1818. Originally constructed for Philip Haxall, a flour mill operator, the house features distinctive architectural elements such as a Doric porch and an elliptical fanlight. Over its history, it has served various educational purposes, including housing the T.C. Williams School of Law and Richmond College. In 1984, it became the headquarters for the American Historical Foundation and later transitioned into Columbia Apartments. This significant structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
