Old Point Loma Lighthouse (Cabrillo National Monument)

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse was first lit in 1855 and was decommissioned in 1891 because its low elevation made it often obscured by fog. The lighthouse and keeper's quarters are preserved within Cabrillo National Monument and are open to the public as a historic site. Over the years the site has been the subject of local ghost stories and visitor reports of unexplained sounds and apparitions; these accounts are part of folklore and are debated among historians and park staff.
