Kildare Street Club

The Kildare Street Club, established in 1782 in Dublin, Ireland, is a historical members' club that played a significant role in the social life of the Anglo-Irish Protestant Ascendancy. Originally founded as a response to the exclusivity of Daly's Club, it quickly became a fashionable gathering place. The club's impressive second clubhouse, built between 1859 and 1860, features a unique Byzantine design and whimsical architectural details. Over the years, it has hosted notable figures and witnessed significant events, including a famous incident involving Earl Landaff and discussions on Catholic Emancipation. Following a decline in the 20th century, the club merged with the Dublin University Club in 1976 and continues to operate at St Stephen's Green, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike, reflecting Dublin's rich social and political history.
