Originally owned by James Steptoe, a close friend of Thomas Jefferson, the house showcases architectural elements influenced by Jefferson's designs. The structure features a two-tiered portico, elaborate assembly hall, and a series of bedrooms on the second floor. The property also includes an early clerk's office and the Calloway-Steptoe Cemetery, which is the burial site for notable local figures.
