Prospect Hall (Frederick, Maryland)

Prospect Hall is a historic mansion in Frederick, Maryland, built around 1787 and completed by 1810. Originally constructed by landowner Daniel Dulaney, this Greek Revival-style house has hosted notable figures, including Presidents George Washington and Harry Truman. It played a significant role during the Civil War, serving as the site where General George G. Meade took command of the Army of the Potomac just before the Battle of Gettysburg. The mansion was also home to U.S. Representative Joseph H. Himes and later housed Saint John's Literary Institution until 2013. Recognized for its historical importance, Prospect Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a granite boulder commemorating its Civil War history. Today, the site has been redeveloped, but its legacy continues to attract tourists and researchers interested in Maryland's rich history.
