Conrad Shindler House

The Conrad Shindler House, built circa 1795, is a historic building located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, now serving as the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War. Originally part of a property deeded by Thomas Shepherd, the house reflects the area's rich history, including its ties to early American carpentry and the Revolutionary War. Notably, it was owned by Conrad Shindler, a coppersmith and descendant of a Revolutionary War veteran, until his death in 1852. The property has since transitioned through various ownerships, including a period as a parsonage for the Reformed Church, before being purchased by actress Mary Tyler Moore in 1995 to establish a Civil War Center, making it a significant site for both historical research and tourism.
