Lesche of the Knidians

The Lesche of the Knidians, located at the sanctuary of Apollo in Delphi, was a significant meeting place built in the 5th century BC, renowned for hosting two famous paintings by the artist Polygnotus: the Capture of Troy and the Nekyia. This rectangular structure, measuring approximately 19 x 10 meters, was strategically positioned on a steep slope, providing stunning views of the sanctuary and surrounding landscape. Although mostly in ruins today, remnants of its architecture, including parts of the walls and columns, can still be seen. The lesche served as a social hub, possibly functioning as a club or restaurant, and was designed to enhance the display of its artworks with natural light. Visitors can explore the historical significance of this site, which reflects the cultural and artistic achievements of ancient Greece.
