Boston Massacre site marked by cobblestones

A ring of cobblestones in the street in front of the Old State House marks the location where British soldiers fired on civilians on March 5, 1770 in the incident known as the Boston Massacre. Five colonists died as a result of the confrontation, including Crispus Attucks, and the event was widely reported and used as a rallying point by Patriot leaders. The cobblestone ring and nearby plaques serve as a 19th- and 20th-century commemorative marker for the historical event rather than as an original 18th-century street feature.
