Blackburne House

Blackburne House is an 18th-century Grade II listed building located in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. Originally built in 1788 as a private residence for wealthy salt refiner John Blackburne, it later became the first girls' school in Liverpool, founded by abolitionist George Holt in 1844. The school emphasized solid education for middle-class daughters and operated until 1986. After a period of dereliction, it was transformed into a training and resource centre for women in 1994. Architecturally, the building features a striking facade with a central domical roof and intricate stone dressings, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in history and women's education.
