Madame Walker Theatre Center

The Madame Walker Theatre Center opened in 1927 as part of the Madame C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company and was built to provide office space and a performance venue for Indianapolis's African American community. It became a major cultural hub on Indiana Avenue hosting vaudeville, theater, and music tailored to Black audiences during segregation. The building was later restored and continues to operate as a performing arts and cultural center celebrating Walker's legacy.
