Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library's renovated central branch

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and originally opened in 1972, serves as the central branch of the DC Public Library system. The building underwent a major, multi-year renovation and reconfiguration and reopened to the public in 2020 with expanded public spaces, technology resources, and community-programming facilities. The library hosts author events, exhibitions, and local-history resources that serve District residents.
