Johnson House Historic Site (Underground Railroad refuge)

The Johnson House, built in 1768, is a documented station on the Underground Railroad that sheltered freedom seekers and served as a center for African American community life in Germantown. The site is preserved as a historic house museum and interpreted by staff and volunteers to tell its history of abolitionist activity. Its tucked-away location on Germantown Avenue makes it a lesser-known but well-documented site of antebellum resistance to slavery.
