Oklahoma City National Memorial – Field of Empty Chairs

The Oklahoma City National Memorial, located on the former site of the Murrah Building, features 168 empty chairs-one for each person killed in the 1995 bombing-with smaller chairs representing the children. The outdoor memorial includes the Gates of Time, a reflecting pool, and a museum that documents the event and its aftermath; the memorial opened to the public in 2000. The arrangement and design of the memorial align elements to the time of the blast and to the footprints of the former building.
