Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden adjacent to the locks

Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden is located immediately adjacent to the Ballard Locks and was developed using fill and landscaping associated with construction and operation of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The garden contains labeled plant collections and interpretive features that were established and expanded by the locks’ superintendent Carl S. English Jr. and subsequent caretakers. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers partners with local volunteers and organizations to maintain the garden for visitors.
