Edward Waters University

Edward Waters University was founded in 1866 and is recognized as the oldest historically Black college and university (HBCU) in Florida. The institution began as the African Methodist Episcopal Church's educational initiative for freedmen and has a campus with several historic buildings reflecting its long history in Jacksonville. Edward Waters continues to operate as a private HBCU offering undergraduate and graduate programs.
