King-Freeman-Speight House

The King-Freeman-Speight House, also known as the Francis Speight House, is a historic plantation home located in Republican, Bertie County, North Carolina. Built in two main sections between 1808 and 1828, the house showcases Federal architectural style with a unique side-hall plan. Notable features include a hip roof front porch and several outbuildings, including smokehouses and a kitchen. The house is significant not only for its architecture but also as the birthplace of renowned landscape artist Francis Speight in 1896. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
