John Whinnerah Institute

The John Whinnerah Institute is a striking Grade II listed Art Deco building located in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Built between 1937 and 1938, it originally served as a hub for the Barrow Women's Institute and Junior Instruction Centre, reflecting early 20th-century efforts to enhance educational opportunities for women and youth in industrial areas. Although the interior was significantly altered in 2004 to create retail spaces, the building's historic facades remain intact. Named after a former mayor, it stands as a testament to the community's commitment to education and empowerment.
