Wharton Place

Wharton Place is a historic home located in Mappsville, Virginia, built in 1798 in the Federal style. This two-story, five-bay brick dwelling features a distinctive deck-on-hip roof and interior chimneys, along with a one-story brick kitchen wing and a contributing frame smokehouse. Constructed by John Wharton, a successful maritime merchant, the house reflects the architectural heritage of the region and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in early American history.
