Karaweik

Karaweik, also known as Karaweik Hall, is a stunning landmark located on the eastern shore of Kandawgyi Lake in Yangon, Burma. Inspired by a traditional Burmese pavilion and the royal barge of Mandalay, this architectural marvel features a design that makes it appear to float on the lake. Constructed between 1972 and 1974, it showcases intricate details, including mythical karaweik birds and a distinctive seven-tiered pyatthat roof. Historically significant, it served as a refuge for monks during the 8888 Uprising and has transitioned from a government-managed site to a privately operated venue, making it a captivating destination for tourists and researchers alike.
