Patea Freezing Works

The Patea Freezing Works, established in the late 19th century in Patea, New Zealand, was a significant meat-processing facility that transitioned from canning to freezing in 1904. At its peak, it employed nearly 1000 workers but faced decline in the 1980s, ultimately closing in 1982. The site became an eyesore and health hazard, leading to community concerns over property values. After years of dereliction, a fire in 2008 prompted demolition efforts, which were completed in 2010.
