Detroit Opera House (former Capitol Theatre)

Opened in 1922 as the Capitol Theatre, the building was designed by C. Howard Crane as a large downtown movie palace. It was rehabilitated and reopened as the Detroit Opera House in 1996 and serves as a principal venue for opera, ballet, and touring Broadway productions. The theater's ornate early-20th-century architecture is a surviving example of Detroit's historic performing-arts infrastructure.
