Charles Winship House

The Charles Winship House, located in Wakefield, Massachusetts, was a prominent example of Colonial Revival architecture built between 1901 and 1906 for Charles Winship, a key figure in the local knitting industry. Designed by the Boston firm Hartwell & Richardson, the mansion featured an ornate interior by Irving and Casson – A. H. Davenport Co., known for their high-quality craftsmanship. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 but faced significant challenges over the years, including a devastating fire in 2005 and subsequent neglect. After serving various purposes, including a convent, the historic house was ultimately demolished in 2020 due to extensive damage, marking the end of an era for this once-grand estate.
