Old Hotel Palace

Old Hotel Palace is a striking modernist building located in Iquitos, Peru, built between 1908 and 1912 during the Amazon rubber boom. Designed by engineer Samuel Young Mass and architect José Altamira y Motta, this historic hotel is situated on the picturesque Malecón Tarapacá, just a block from the Plaza de Armas. Known for its luxurious accommodations in its heyday, the building features intricate wrought iron balconies and a blend of Gothic and neoclassical architectural elements, reminiscent of Antoni Gaudí's style. Today, it serves as the office of the Fifth Military Region of Peru and was featured on a commemorative 1 Sol coin in 2014, celebrating the heritage of the Loreto Region.
